The 2009 vintage has been hailed as one of the best for years and compared with the great 1947 and 1929. It was a vintage that was developed in its infancy back in the spring when the perfect flowering conditions set the tone for the year. Rain on 15th June, helped to add moisture to the vines. The months of July and August were warm with a little rain and a green harvest was carried out in most vineyards. September was dry from the 21st through to the harvest, which began at the beginning of October. This is a vintage that every wine lover should have in his cellar. The grapes were picked in the best of conditions and although some sorting had to be done most of the bunches were in perfect condition when collected. At the lower price level these wines, especially from the Medoc, will give great pleasure over the years. At the very top, the First growths, are wines of infinite elegance, power and finesse. The Château Lafite-Rothschild will give pleasure to our great grandchildren a hundred years from now. The Sauternes vintage evolved around a frenzy of picking beginning the 5th October for a week. The noble rot came quickly and many bunches were affected almost within 24 hours. This is also a great vintage with some alcohols reaching 14 degrees; it has been compared to the 2001 and the 1989. As with all wines bought en primeur payment is required for the wine now, and duty delivery and VAT will be charged when the wine is shipped in 2012. If you would like you wine to be stored ;in bond; would you please tell us when you make the first payment.
